Program Note
This singable chorus by Sidney Cox (1887-1975) simply says:
Presented here in a swing style, this arrangement attempts to grasp the joy of what this means.
- I love Him better every day,
- I love Him better every day.
- Close by His side, there I'll abide;
- I love Him better every day.
Note to the Conductor
The biggest challenge in this arrangement is getting young musicians to play convincingly in the swing style. If your drummer can play in the style it will go a long way toward solidifying your ensemble. Listening to jazz recordings can help your group understand the style that you are trying to achieve.
In the solo section, beginning at measure 22, make sure the soloist is clearly heard. You may need to reduce the number of players on other parts if the soloist cannot be heard above the group.
Work to have clean, accurate swing rhythm, but it is also important to have fun with this one!
