For as long as he can remember Geoff Perry has loved the Bible. He recalls learning long portions of scripture when just 10 or 11 years of age to qualify to receive a free Bible in Leeds under the terms of the will of Phillip, Lord Wharton. It was during the 1970s when he served on the teaching staff of The Salvation Army's William Booth Memorial Training College in south London that he began paraphrasing the Psalms.
A number of these were published in the UK in the Army's weekly War Cry. Later some were printed in the Canadian edition of the War Cry.
Now a retired Lieutenant-Colonel following 43 years of service as a full time officer in the Movement, he lives with his wife of 45 years in Essex.
Apart from their work for the Army within Britain, Geoffrey and Joan served for 13 years as missionary officers in Korea, Zimbabwe and Zambia. They retired from the service at international Headquarters, London, in 1994. They have three married children.
