This solo is a transcription of a piece originally written for tenor voice, harp, cello, and organ by the early Romantic composer Cᄄᆭsar Franck. He was born in Belgium but lived and worked most of his life in Paris. Panis Angelicus is a stanza of a larger hymn called Sacris Solemniis, written by Saint Thomas Aquinas. It was set to music by Franck in 1872, the year he began his professorship at the Paris Conservatory.
