We believers are people of the Covenant.
There was a time when we were not. "Foreigners to the covenantsᄀᆳwithout hope" was the Bible's description of our lack of spiritual status.
But faith in Christ changed all that. We believe, and therefore we belong.
Shareholders in any immense spiritual reality, by Divine appointment, we benefit beyond all comprehension. Ours to inherit are the blessings God promised Noah and Abraham and Moses and Davidᄀᆰand His Son Jesus Christᄀᆰin the provisions of the eternal covenant.
Gripped by that tremendous fact, we sense our obligation. Believers who commit themselves in covenantal terms, as many Salvationists do, are simply seeking to respond appropriately to God's amazing commitment of Himself.
The covenant which admits us to soldiership is an instance of this. A wedding vow is another. So are the words spoken at the dedication of a child.
God's covenant stands inviolate. What of ours?
