Program Note
Here is an arrangement of Handel's famous anthem, "For Unto us a Child Is Born," from Handel's Messiah. Originally scored for choir and orchestra, this flex-score arrangement allows nearly any ensemble to play this classic gem.
Note to the Conductor
A stately tempo from the beginning will ensure the music is given the correct amount of space. Aim for a light style, while maintaining accurate rhythms. Emphasizing beats one and three will help in this regard. There may be a tendency for the sixteenth notes to be rushed, so make sure the rhythms in the accompanying parts are secure to support those with the sixteenths. For dotted rhythms, it is important to ensure that rhythms are kept strict and do not fall into the triplet category. In the case of the fortissimos and accented notes, aim for a broad classical approach.
