Day By Day
It has been said that no one has control over what happens in this life ᄀᆰ but we do have control over how we respond. The life of Swedish 19th century hymn writer, Carolina Sandell Berg, was certainly a testimony to this truth. At 26, while crossing a lake with her father, she saw her father thrown overboard and drown when the ship suddenly lurched. Although she had written hymns before, she now poured out her broken hert in an endless stream of songs which would eventually number 650, including "Day by Day," which begins:
Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've no cause for worry or for fear.
The truth of this text, coupled with the beautiful melody of Oscar Ahnfelt, this classic hymn continues to be sung over two centuries.
