Foreword
This compilation of nine papers contained in the "Heritage of Holiness" is the result of combined efforts of the Salvation Army's Eastern Territorial Historical Commission and the Literary Board.
Five of these papers originally were presented at the first Historical Commission Conference. In order to give a more inclusive historical perspective on holiness teaching, four additional papers were added.
Although these materials were written by soldiers and officers of THe Salvation Army for the education and inspiration of Salvationists, the historical information is significant to all Christians, and, particularly, to those who are members of holiness denominations. References to reading materials at the end of each paper will be a valuable aid to students and researchers.
The Salvation Army presents these papers in the sincere hope that readers will become bette rinformed, gaining a clearer historical perspective on this important point of doctrine, and that they will better understand God's call to all believers "to live in continual fellowship with the risen Saviour" (Handbook of Doctrine, p. 154).
