Band Music for Evangelism
Edited by Dr. Dorothy Gates
PrefaceIt is my pleasure to commend to you this collection of Christmas music from the American Band Journal.
The journal begins with William Himes glorious Carol Setting Joy to the World! It continues with Gavin Whitehouse's imaginative piece, A Christmas Overture. Major Thomas Mack (R) may be enjoying retirement but this has allowed him to produce a lot of music this year and we are blessed because of it. Major Mack has contributed two beautiful arrangements of his own original melodies. A Christmas Pastorale which is set to the words, It came upon the Midnight Clear, was written as a male chorus song for the New York Staff Band Chorus, entitled The Angels' Song. Miracle was first published as a song in Sing to the Lord Volume 4 in 1997, under the title Miracle in a Manger. This completes the 65th edition of the ABJ.
May God bless all who hear this music.
