Band Music for Evangelism
Preface
Suitable music for the Christmas season has been a problem for our bands. This issue presents four contrasting compositions which express many moods of the joyous celebration. From the Heralding Angels' stirring rejoicings to the holy hush beside the lowly manger cradle… from the vivacious songs of modern carolers to the contemplative whispers of cathedral organs… all these and more are echoed in these scores. This is music which will captivate the listener with its expressive message, whether it be on the street corner, over the air waves, or in our halls.
We express again our deep debt of gratitude to Mr. Erik Leidzen for his editorial help and for the two contributions contained in these pages. This music has been passed for general Salvation Army use by the Eastern Territorial Music Board and is published by the authority of Commissioner Donald McMillan, Territorial Commander.
—Captain Richard E. Holz 1948
