Band Music for Evangelism
Edited by Dr. Dorothy Gates
PrefaceIt is my pleasure to commend to you this collection of CHristmas music. With this edition, we welcome back prolific SA composer Norman Beacroft and welcome to the American Band Journal for hte first time one of the Army's most promosing new composers, Dean Jones, in addition to our own Music Editor, Dorothy Gates, and Divisional Music Director of the USA West's Southwest Division, Ralph E. Pearce.
The journal begins with Colonel Bearcroft's bright and imaginative march based on The Twelve Days of Christmas. It continues with Dorothy Gates' skillful transcription of Handsel's Hallelujah, which many will know from Mannheim Steamroller. Bandmaster Pearce contributes a beautiful cornet solo featuring the English carol, Forest Green, which the USA Eastern Territory originally published with piano accompaniment in American Soloists Album 7. Dean Jones' selection based on Away in a Manger (Cradle Song) and Normandy Carol completes this useful installment of CHristmas repertoire for bands.
May God bless all who hear this music.
