Band Music for Evangelism
Edited by Dorothy Gates
Preface
As worship services in The Salvation Army continue to include songs from the praise and worship tradition, it is important that this usage is reflected in our publications for brass bands. This issue of the American Band Journal features arrangements that include meaningful songs, both old and new.
We are grateful to the composers who have submitted their works for this publication. Dorothy Gates' arrangement of Breathe, along with the hymn tune, Carlisle, to which we associate the words Breathe on me…breath of God. Stephen Bulla has written a lively march featuring the highly popular Shout to the Lord. Martyn Scott Thomas gives us a Caribbean feature with his Island Dreams and Bill Broughton has arranged Let the Beauty of Jesus in his inimitable style.
This is all music that will express the joy and meaning of the Christian life.
