JSC Glory, Hallelujah!
Product Code: 4102001157
Comments by Divisional Music Director Kevin Larsson
For the big, dramatic opening with long sustained chords, the length of notes should not be compromised for volume. Only play the volume that will allow you to play through to the very end of the chords. Ensure the melody in the Trombones at bar 5 is audible. The music at section A changes to a playful, energetic style which remains or the majority of the piece.
The simple directive that will lead to a good performance is to observe all articulations and dynamics and ensure that the melody is heard throughout.
Special mention should be made of the Cornet feature 4 bars before G. Keep these notes long, with no gaps. An alternative is to flutter tongue these 4 bars.
This bright and fun setting of the classic Salvation Army song 'Glory, Hallelujah!', which first appeared in 1899, stylistically embraces music associated with Hollywood. Behind all the 'razzmatazz', the direct message is always clear: 'The devil and me we don't agree, Glory, Hallelujah! I hate him and he hates me. Glory, Hallelujah!' (view series guide)
