Band Music for Evangelism
Edited by Dr. Dorothy Gates
PrefaceIt is my pleasure to commend to you this 2008 installment of Christmas music from the American Band Journal.
Young Norwegian composer, Morgan Juel Stavik, offers a march based on several carols, most prominently, Away in a Manger. Dr. Harold BUrgmayer's plaintive and beautiful setting of the traditional carol I Wonder As I Wander is a gem, as is Major Thomas Mack's fine arrangement, Somewhere In My Memory — which many will recognize from the motion picture Home Alone. The 61st edition of the ABJ is complete with Dorothy Gates' witty hip-hop setting of Ye Merry Gentlemen.
May all who hear this music be blessed this Christmas Season.
